Max the Cat, also know as Sir Maximus the Smelly, Maxwell Fart, Smelly Cat, and Bubbers (but only by his close personal friends) was discovered from unknown origin in the front planter of the Knoll's house on a dark and stormy Thursday, November 13, 2008. The youngest (and most compassionate) Knoll, Rebecca, spotted Max as he ran up her driveway and into the azalea bushes on her way back from college. She immediately ran inside and begged her mother to come help the poor little kitten.

At first reluctant to help the little cat, Linda Knoll came around when she saw how much it meant to her little girl (who isn't very little anymore). They went out with a towel, Linda called Max from the bushes with a "here kitty kitty kitty" and wrapped him in a towel. He was tiny enough to fit in one hand. Linda brought him in while Rebecca tried to find a box with some towels to put him in.

At first they were both reluctant to tell the head of the Knoll family, Stephen, that they'd rescued the poor little kitten because Stephen was a great hater of the animal. His motto used to be "Destroy all Cats". Linda told him, and he said they should take it to the SPCA, but only in the morning. Rebecca ran down to Wal-Mart to buy some cat essentials. That night, Max (though we didn't know at the time whether he was a boy or girl) would not leave the warmth of any of the Knolls. He was fed and dried and had a litter box to use, everything a cat could want.

The next day, Stephen told the rest of the Knolls that they could keep Max and see if any of the neighbors lost a cat. Max immediately took a liking to Stephen, choosing to curl up on his shoulders more than anyone else, and strangely enough Stephen soon loved Mr. Max. He says he's the perfect cat, the only kind he ever would have gotten: short haired, grey coloring (with brown undertones), and a very friendly personality. Now Stephen's motto is "Destroy all Cats, except Mr. Max."

Since none of the neighbors claimed to have lost a cat, and based on how malnourished he was when they found him, the Knolls decided he'd probably been born wild (or abandoned) and choose to keep him. They've given him a wonderful life so far, filled it with cat trees and ham treats. The Knolls look forward to raising Max for a very long time and grow to love him more with every passing day.
